The origin of the creation and purpose of human life the perspective of science and religion

The question of where humans come from and for what he lives has become a deep reflection in every civilization. Humans, as creatures of thinking, are not only physically active, but also look for meaning in their existence. In answering this question, religion and science come with their respective approaches. Science explains the origin of the biological side, while religion explains through revelation and spiritual values. Can both complement each other? Let’s discuss further.

Human creation according to science

In the perspective of science, humans come from biological processes that begin with the union of sperm and egg cells in a process known as fertilization or fertilization. When this process is successful, a zygote is formed, which is the initial cell that is the basis of human development. This zygote then experiences a series of cell divisions and develops into embryos, which subsequently grow into the fetus in the womb. The whole process is running influenced by the work of hormones, physiological conditions of the body, and the internal environment that supports the initial development of life (Handayani, Wahyuningsih, 2020).

The theory of evolution also provides an explanation of the origin of modern humans (Homo sapiens) which is believed to be the result of a gradual development process for millions of years from the ancestors of primates. Through the mechanism of natural selection and adjustment to the environment, humans undergo transformation both physically and the ability to think. Over time, humans not only experience biological changes, but also experience progress in aspects of intelligence, language, and self -awareness. Nevertheless, this theory highlights the scientific process of how humans are formed, and have not touched aspects of why humans were created or what the purpose of its existence (Rosyidah, 2022).

Human creation according to religion

In an Islamic perspective, the process of human creation is explained in detail in the Koran. Allah SWT states that the first man, the Prophet Adam, was created from dry clay originating from black mud which was given the shape. After that, God blows the spirit into him, making it a living creature that has a physical and spiritual element. This explanation is in the QS. Al-Hijr verse 28-29:

And if your master said to Malik so they fell to him, two prostitutes 29

It means: “And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: ‘Indeed, I will create humans from the dry clay of black mud. (QS Al-HJR verse 28-29).

Human creation in Islam is not only a physical process, but also involves the spiritual aspect of which is the main difference between humans and other creatures. The spirit of the spirit of God shows that humans have a high position, not only as biological creatures, but also as spiritual creatures. In the Koran, humans are also appointed as caliphs on earth, which means he is given the mandate and responsibility to prosper and maintain God’s creation according to divine values. This task includes aspects of worship to God and moral responsibility towards others and the environment (Qodir, 2018).

The purpose of life according to religion Islam

In Islamic teachings, it is emphasized that the existence of humans in the world is not without meaning. Humans were created by God Almighty for clear and noble purposes. This is as described in the Koran Adz-Dzariyat verse 56, which reads:

And I did not create jinn and humanity, but for worship 56

It means: “And I did not create jinn and humans but so that they worship me.” (QS Adz-Dzariyat: 56)

This verse emphasizes that the main purpose of human creation is to worship Allah SWT. However, the meaning of worship in Islam is not limited to the form of rituals, such as prayer and fasting. Worship includes all aspects of life that is undertaken by the intention because of God, both in the form of social deeds, work, studying, to maintain human relations. Thus, human life should be directed to carry out God’s commands, stay away from His prohibitions, and seek His pleasure as the final goal. World life becomes a field of dedication and test, while the afterlife is a place of retaliation and re -meeting with the Creator (Ramdhani, 2021).

The purpose of life according to science and psychology

In the realm of modern psychology, especially the flow of existential psychology, it is emphasized that the search for the meaning of life is a crucial aspect of human life. One important figure in this field, Viktor Frankl, revealed that when someone lost its meaning or direction in his life, he was prone to experience psychological and spiritual disorders. Conversely, when an individual manages to find meaningful life goals, his life will feel more valuable and passionate. Although science, especially science, does not frankly explain the purpose of life in the spiritual context, but it still recognizes that humans need direction and meaning in their lives as part of mental health and psychological well -being (Mustaqim, Nurul, 2020).

Synergy of Science and Religion in Understanding Existence

Harmony between science and religion is very important in answering fundamental questions about the origin and meaning of life. Reason provides a foundation of logical thinking and science, while the heart instills moral values, beliefs, and responsibilities (Azhari, 2023). By uniting both of them, humans can find a balanced direction of life between reason and spirituality.

From the description above, it can be concluded that an understanding of the origin of creation and the purpose of human life needs to be approached thoroughly. Science (science) provides an explanation of the process of physical and biological formation of humans, while religion gives the existential meaning and purpose of human creation. Collaboration between the two is very important to form individuals who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also have moral integrity and spiritual depth.
